About the Author: John Ferris
I live in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia which is that state that has the Great Barrier Reef and millions of kangaroos. For the past five years, I've been the Managing Director of a mobile mechanical franchise company. My two sons are aged 16 and 15 and live with me.
I attend a church called Reach Out for Christ whose founder is Dr. Steve Ryder and who is well-known in many countries of the world. I'm known as the singing deacon in some circles because I serve as a deacon as well as being in the church choir.
In April, 1999, I discovered that I could write poetry. The Lord has bestowed upon me a powerful gift to translate Bible stories into poetry. "Why me?", I said. During my school years, I hated poetry. In that still small voice, I heard God say, "You were hard-hearted. Now I've given you the heart of a poet." Why fight it? He has even allowed me to put my mark upon the work by permitting me a great deal of latitude with the humour element. I also like to use common language to tell my stories.
These are ten of my favourite poems. The last one was written just a month ago upon the death of one of the beloved elderly ladies in the church.
John is the President of the Australian outreach for the Fellowship of Christian poets. He will be establishing local chapters as the Lord provides. If you are interested, please e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
