About the Author: Elsie Cuevas

No one knows better than Elsie the powerful effect that written words can have on someone. She came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in 1980 after reading a book entitled Satan is Alive and Well on Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey. This book, which was saturated with spiritual truth, contained--interestingly enough--an analogy coupled with the Word of God that revolutionized her life.

As a result of her spiritual conversion, her husband Eddie came to know the Lord in a personal way; her mother, who is now deceased, gave her heart to Him five years before she passed on; her father, who always thought that he was going to heaven simply because he was a "good man", finally surrendered his life to God at the ripe old age of ninety-one—only months before he passed away; and many other family members, friends and acquaintances drew closer to Christ. "What God has done for me and my loved ones," declares Elsie, " because an anointed author took time to put "pen to paper" in a labor of love toward Him, will never fail to amaze me. I am and by the grace of the Almighty God will always be eternally grateful." It is no small wonder that one of her goals in life is to touch lives through her writing as hers was touched.

Elsie was born and raised in The Bronx and was married in 1968. In 1972, together with her husband and infant son, she moved to Long Island. Shortly after her conversion, she began attending a Spirit-filled church and became a student of the Bible. Although she was carrying her third child by then, her passion for the Word of God led her to enroll as an undergraduate student at Logos Bible College where she faithfully attended classes until it was forced to relocate out of state.

Today, she continues to serve the Lord as a wife, a mother of five, a grandmother of one, a poet and a short-story writer. She also lends support as one of the Children's Church Sunday school teachers. Pastor Gary Stevens of New Beginnings Christian Center in Coram, New York says this about her: "Elsie stands with her husband as part of a prayer team at our church and also as the leaders of Hospital Visitation Ministry. Elsie, along with her husband Eddie, has been a vital part of the church for twenty years. Her ministry in poetry has been a special blessing at different church events such as funerals, church dinners, and other special occasions where God's voice has been heard through her poetry."

Because she chose to exercise her right to home-instruct her five children, Elsie now has over 12 years experience teaching the state-mandated Language Arts curriculum and has become adept at spotting and correcting grammatical errors. She looks forward to serving you as poetry editor and co-laboring with the staff here at Fellowship of Christian Poets.
